To Whom Much is Given. . .

Much is expected.

Darius Rucker performs with a group of people with developmental delays at the ACM awards.

I so admire and respect people who have the gift of great talent and who choose to use that gift in a meaningful way.  It inspires me.  It makes me ask myself-- what can I be doing?  What should I be doing?  How can I do more?

A 60 Minutes segment featuring Albert Pujols-- an incredible baseball player and an awesome advocate.  Thank you Miss Katie for making sure I knew this was on Sunday night!

Every night before bed, I pray for three things (well, I actually pray for like a million things-- all the babies having surgeries, all the babies born with Down syndrome who don't have homes, all my friends and family, and on and on), but I always pray for these three very specific things.

I pray to God and ask that he help me to be the best mom I can be, to be the best wife I can be and to be the best person I can be.

I don't know the answer, but I look for it every day and try to fulfill whatever the role or journey may be for me. I belong to an online community for people who have a child with Down syndrome and one of the moms in that community puts it so eloquently.  She says, "I never knew I wanted a child with Down syndrome until I had one."

I never knew I would be an advocate for my child.  Now I know.

  1. I need to watch the 60 minutes segment!

I was an always an advocate for other kids. Now I get to advocate for my own. Surprising... but not bad!

  3. I love Pujols! He has done so much for the Ds community. Make me wish that I still lived in St. Louis. Excellent post :-)
