Thanks so much for shari...This is so well written. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts. Yes, the hypocrisy is blatant and it is difficult to see.

I go to see a movie by myself each week while my girls are in school. I, like you, cringe when I hear the R word. I have also seen both The Descendants & Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close. I saw Extremely Loud b/c I am the parent of 2 girls on the autism spectrum (one with autism, one w/Asperger's). I felt comfortable as I was watching b/c I saw SO much of my girls' sensory issues, quirks, & personalities in Oskar....until he said the R word to the bellhop. I was so disappointed. Neither of my girls would EVER think to say something so hurtful. I just wanted to scream "Are you kidding me? Why did you have to go there?"

I, like you, also thought that the The Descendants was going to use his use of the R word as a teachable moment & then was beyond disappointed that it just got even more offensive.

My husband & I recently rented The Change-Up and as soon as the R word was used, we turned it off. I'm super disappointed that stars accept roles and agree to say these slurs after reading the script. I have always been a huge Ryan Reynolds fan & that totally knocked him down in my book.

Thanks for sharing this message!Julie Coryellhttp://iamjuju.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5931339813365183751.post-15047617270417465342012-02-15T10:11:31.786-05:002012-02-15T10:11:31.786-05:00great post. I will tell you that I was absolutely...great post. I will tell you that I was absolutely livid when the I saw the nominations for The Descendants. It is absolutely frustrating to see just how acceptable the r-word is in Hollywood (in society in general). Keep on blogging. If we all rise up and speak out, maybe things will change.Anna Theurerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06937391910402532608noreply@blogger.com
